Call down the hawk maggie stiefvater5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() There are new characters: Jordan Hennessey, an art forger, and the copies of herself she repeatedly dreams and brings back in a nightmare she can’t escape Carmen Farooq-Lane, a member of a shadowy extra-governmental organisation tasked with taking out dreamers, who they believe will end the world. There’s more compromise than hope as Adam, Ronan, and Ronan’s older brother, Declan, negotiate their way around living adult lives with the dangers dreaming can bring. ![]() The new story has a different feel to it: the world is harsher, the stakes are higher, the action is more violent and the future feels bleak. If you read my Raven Cycle review, you’ll see I’m quite the frothing fan boy of the first series, so I was excited to get my hands on this new book. Genre-wise, the story sits somewhere between paranormal and fantasy. The action is set after Ronan and Adam have left school and Adam has begun college, so whilst the Raven Cycle was solidly YA, this novel is at the upper end of YA, edging into adult. Whereas the Raven Cycle focused around a group of school friends uncovering a supernatural mystery, the new trilogy focuses on the world of dreamers like Ronan, who can bring back objects from their dreams and, on the other side, people who believe them to be a serious threat to the world. ![]() This is the first in a new trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater, set in the same world as the Raven Cycle and featuring some of the same characters, particularly Ronan and Adam. ![]() Get Real and Get In by Aviva Legatt5/24/2023 ![]() Legatt has had the honor of covering current higher education issues and interviewing U.S. As a Forbes Senior Contributor, which recognizes the top 2% of Forbes Contributors, Dr. Legatt's Ivy League admissions committee and all-around college expertise, students complete meaningful extracurricular activities manage time effectively and create an optimal college application strategy for admission to top tier colleges. Tohr’s grief is a palpable, living thing. I’ve been trying out new paranormal romances but the power in this book makes those other authors’ stories seem anemic. Tohr is caring man, crippled by his loss. Even in his blinding grief, however, he is a man who loves his adopted son, John Matthew, and the king, Wrath, that Tohr serves. With each swipe of the blade, he seeks oblivion. He hasn’t fed from another woman in quite some time and his frame is becoming gaunt and weak. Because suicide would prevent Tohr from reaching the Fade, the vampire heaven, where he would be able to live out eternity with his Wellsie and their unborn son, Tohr spends each night fighting the vampire enemies with the hope of death. Tohrment lost his bonded mate in book one when she was shot, a casualty in the vampire/lesser war. I read the flyleaf of the hardcover when I received my complimentary copy and discovered that this was the love story of Tohrment. My interest waned as I felt the series moved farther away from the core romance base where the series was birthed. ![]() I haven’t read a book in this series since Book 5.
